Work Life Balance

Work Life Balance

Does work get in the way of your life or has work become your way of life?  How do you balance all the work-related tasks you need to complete each and every day, while balancing your personal life?

Once upon a time we had three parts of our day which were split equally: 8 hours of work, 8 hours of leisure time and 8 hours of sleep.  Yes looking back this seems like a fairy tale now!  Today' balance is 12 hours of work, 6 hours of sleep and 6 hours of a lot of other stuff not really leisure.

Work Life Balance Tips

So how do you change this?  Here are 5 tips implemented that have made a difference.

1. Separate your personal time from your work time

2. Focus on the moment

3. Early to rise and Prioritize

4. Make time for just yourself

5. Set realistic expectations

My Progress On Balancing

#1  This is the biggest challenge for me from this list.  Some of us work all the time and find it difficult to stop.   This is getting better turning it off after hours.

#2  The mind is amazing and you want to be and feel like you are in the moment, however, sometimes your mind just slips away.....and yes it slips away to work.   Be in the moment and focus on now.

#3  Early risers are known to be more proactive, can better anticipate problems, are more optimistic and often have more family time after work.  I have always been an early riser thanks to growing up on a farm and prefer to workout first thing in the morning.

#4 This is a personal favourite!  I enjoy actually sitting and listening to music while doing nothing else or read a book.   Lately, I have enjoyed some time lighting a fire and just chilling.   Sometimes I'll turn the TV on or work on the notebook and this is happening less as I learn to make time just for myself and not feel guilty!

#5  Only you get define what your realistic expectations are so you can confidently accomplish them.  Do not sell yourself short and challenge yourself while keeping it realistic so you can be successful.
