Is There A Tech Scene In Windsor?
Yes there certainly is! The week of October 21st was Tech Week with many successful events, sponsors and many professionals joining in to celebrate the Tech Scene in WindsorEssex. During this week, there were twelve events, over one thousand attendees with thirty partners and sponsors across WindsorEssex and ChathamKent Regions. It was an epic week ending on the Saturday with the Tech Awards, Nerd Olympics awards and topping it off with the classic GhostBusters movie!
Tech Enabled Day
On Tuesday, October 22nd, AlphaKOR was a proud Title Sponsor for Tech Enabled Day, brought to you by WEtech Alliance and the WindsorEssex Regional Chamber of Commerce held at Caesars Windsor. Yours truly was honoured to sit on one of the two panels to share with the audience the importance of protecting your data and infrastructure from cyber crime. Cyber security layers, tips and some best practices were discussed including the importance of investing in cyber security insurance.
The keynote speaker was Casey Lynn, Strategic Partnerships at Goole sharing her knowledge on embracing social media, technology and leveraging Google tools such as Google My Business to help reach your audience online.
Tech Women Day
The tech community supports and encourages gender equality and diversification. Our very own, Samantha Russell and Claudia Kretschmann participated in Tech Women Day. AlphaKOR has twenty-five percent women on the Team and working to ensure we continue to encourage women to consider a career in the tech sector. Build A Dream is moving the dial and playing an instrumental role leading this movement across Canada!
Our Tech Ecosystem
Yvonne Pilon, President of WEtech Alliance describes our ecosystem in the tech sector: Our tech ecosystem has made significant progress, including adding new tech companies, new clusters and new assets including Quicken Loans Canadian Tech Headquarters, Automate Canada and the largest publicly available Virtual Reality Cave for Autonomous Vehicle Testing as part of the provincial Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Network. Our partnerships and proximity to the growing Tech Ecosystem in Toronto-Waterloo Corridor and Detroit (and Michigan), is a strategic advantage and one that can enhance our continued growth and regional economic impact.
My Take On The Tech Scene
Over my career of thirty-one years, I am glad to see our region building a bigger and better tech scene. The AlphaKORians' are dedicated to helping organizations of all sizes in the region and globally to embrace technology to increase their revenues, decrease their expenses and improve efficiencies. Our digital marketing strategies are helping companies reaching larger audiences to get their messages out.
It is so exciting to see technical and non-technical professionals join in celebrating Tech Week. All sectors were represented including private sector, non-profit, public sector and academia. Look around you and see how vibrant the region' tech scene is. It was such an honour and very humbled on being named Tech CEO of the Year, sponsored by Deloitte. I love what I do and the best part is telling the AlphaKORians' story on all the great work they do!
