This blog was written a couple of months before the pandemic and is more relevant today with all the changes happening around us.
Be Open-Minded
It is not easy to always be open-minded, however, we must always have an open mind. Relying on just the past and doing things the same way will not necessarily result in future success. Just because “we always did it that way” does not mean it is the best way.
Look at the constant change, the number of new requests and the fast pace of business Explore the changes happening, learn as much as you can in a short time. Set goals and make decisions without passing on your negative judgement to others. Lead! Be open-minded to reacting to these changes by adopting new ways of thinking and tweaking your current good habits.
PLUNGE FORWARD
After looking at the wealth of data, make your own conclusion to plunge forward with the changes. Often you will find yourself asking what was holding you back in the first place?
It is okay if you make mistakes along the way. Always remember the more important thing is how you react to not being perfect. You can revert back in most cases if plunging forward is not successful. Remember to always keep the pendulum swinging forward.
LET GO
This is a tough one and my favourite! Anyone else a micro-manager and control freak? Yes, I thought so. Let go of being so rigid and be more flexible by letting go. This continues to be a work in progress. Happy to report I have made some steps in the right direction over the years. Coaching, mentoring and leading are some ways to cope with micro-managing.
EMBRACE CHANGE
Change is good and healthy for everyone and for businesses. It sets apart those who are leading in their respective professions. Accept change as a daily habit. There is a lesson I learned many years ago about gravity. Whether you like it, believe it exists, support it or not; gravity is real and it keeps our feet on the ground as we reach for the stars. Remember this when resisting change and ask yourself why are you resisting change instead of embracing change.
How are you embracing change?
